Why does the discharge not go away? Why won’t that ulcer heal?

Two questions every practice knows well, and the starting point for this session. Georgie Fricker, Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology, shares top tips for assessing the ocular surface and practical approaches to managing some of the most common eye conditions in cats and dogs.

It will be a relaxed evening with plenty of room for questions, so bring along any eye cases that have been puzzling you.

About the speaker

Georgina (Georgie) Fricker BVSc CertVOphthal DipECVO MRCVS is an RCVS and EBVS® Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology and joined Granta in July this year as our ophthalmologist.

Georgie graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2005 and followed a general practice pathway before a growing interest in ophthalmology led her to Optivet Referrals in 2009, where a busy caseload accelerated her clinical learning and she gained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2011. She then moved to Davies Veterinary Specialists for an ECVO residency under the mentorship of David Gould and Kerry Smith, gaining her diploma in 2016 and staying with the practice until her growing family brought her back to her East Anglian roots.

Georgie is Chair of the ECVO Education and Residency Committee and enjoys teaching and mentoring alongside her clinical work. She is also joining the specialist advisory board of StreetVet, supporting the vet teams who care for eye cases on the streets.

‘I am looking forward to working with referring vets to manage their eye cases and offer contextualised care for their patients. I love ophthalmic surgery and the variety of challenges that extraocular, corneal and intraocular surgery bring. Working in a friendly, multidisciplinary team brings the opportunity to work with colleagues in other disciplines to bring a holistic approach.’

Outside work you’ll find her with her husband and two young boys in the garden, out exploring with their dogs, or on (and sometimes in) the water.
