A fond farewell to Dr Janet Littlewood 

After 49 years in veterinary medicine, our dermatology specialist Dr Janet Littlewood is retiring. The whole team, along with families and friends, gathered to celebrate a career that has shaped the care of so many patients and careers of colleagues. 

Dr Littlewood has been part of Granta Veterinary Specialists since the very start. An RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology, she brought decades of experience to the Centre and helped shape its multidisciplinary approach to referral care. 

Her path into dermatology was not one she had planned. “Forty-nine years ago this week, if anybody had told me I’d be a specialist dermatologist, I’d have laughed,” she said. Dr Littlewood spent more than twenty years working peripatetically, before a sabbatical in Australia reminded her how much she valued being part of a multidisciplinary team. 

That was what brought her to Granta. “I remember very well hunting out Rob after I came back from my sabbatical in Australia,” she recalled. “This opportunity came up, and I want to thank Rob, Jackie, Jane and Freddie for enabling me to be in at the beginning of this venture, which has evolved and grown, and is now Granta Veterinary Specialists.” 

To mark the occasion, colleagues and their families came together for a barbecue and (lots of!) cake, sharing stories of Dr Littlewood and thanking her for everything she has given to the practice. 

“It has been lovely, an honour and a privilege to work alongside friends and colleagues, old and new, and to share my professional ethos,” Dr Littlewood said.
